Nokia is the parent company of Vertu - a British-based manufacturer and retailer of luxury mobile phones. Their concept is to make mobile phones in the same vein as luxury watch manufacturers like Rolex, IWC and Patek Philippe.
The mobile phones are made from expensive materials such as gold, sapphire (for the mobile screen), rubies (for the bearings) and fine leather. Whoah, those are very expensive! They say "Every Vertu handset is exceptional. Each one is painstakingly built by hand in England by highly-skilled craftsmen."
The most expensive model it has ever made is the Signature Cobra, at US$310,000 (€217,000). It boasts a pear-cut diamond, one round white diamond, two emerald eyes and over 400 rubies. Only 8 are being made so if you can justify spending $310,000 on a cell phone you’d better call quick.
The most expensive regular model is the Signature Diamond at US$88,000 (€62,000). Vertu's Signature Diamond Collection consists of handsets made of 18 carat yellow or white gold set with pave diamonds, as well as a platinum handset set with a .25 carat solitaire diamond. Each handset takes craftsmen a total of seven days to complete because they set over 700 diamonds by hand. They're only producing 200 phones, which will be sold exclusively in select jewelry stores.
If I have the money, I'll never buy these phone especially with mobile phone theft rife here in the Philippines.
